Mokume-Gane translates as 'wood grain metal' or wood eye metal', because it creates
an effect that looks like natural wood grain. In this highly specialised technique, layers of
contrasting coloured metals are fusion welded, using very high heat and pressure, to create on solid block or billet.
This sandwich is then further manipulated by forging, twisting and carving to expose multiple layers and thus form
more and increasingly complex patterns.
